Forgetting Flatbush (2025)

acrylic felt canvas, handmade wooden frame

54” x 38”

Rooted in memory and transformation, Forgetting Flatbush revisits the artist’s childhood neighborhood in Little Caribbean, Brooklyn. The work reimagines Flatbush’s familiar icons — storefronts, biker crews, Peppa’s Jamaican restaurant, the old MTA bus, and dollar vans — through the tactile language of felt. Originally created as a digital illustration using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop during the pandemic, this piece reflects on nostalgia, belonging, and the shifting identity of a community shaped by migration and gentrification.
